the BIBLIOPHONE 1000 Words Heard Competition!
This competition has now closed. Thank you to all those who entered! The winner will be announced soon so stay tuned. If you didn’t enter keep an ear out for more great FREE competitions coming shortly.
Can YOU create a story in 1000 words?
This is a writing competition with a difference. No honestly, we actually mean it!
Come on, how many writing competitions have you come across that offer a prize of a thousand pounds (alright, or dollars or yen or euros) and you think: that might be fun. Even if I don’t win it’ll be good practice. So you click on it and wait – there’s a great big clunky caveat and it’s called an entry fee. And suddenly what appeared to be a writing competition now looks suspiciously like gambling. If you don’t win you lose your initial investment.
And in any case, what are you going to do with a cash prize that might bolster your career as an author?
What you really want is a FREE competition. One that’s easy to enter but nevertheless tests your creative skills. And offers a prize that expands your audience.
Obviously we here at Bibliophone are, ahem, somewhat biased towards audio books but unless you’ve been roaming the desert for the past few years, you can’t fail to have noticed their surge in popularity. Audio books are everywhere. If you want to make it as an author, the audio book sector is one you can’t afford to ignore. In fact information at the end of 2015 from the Association of American Publishers cites a rise in paperback sales of 12.5% in the first six months of the year, but a corresponding drop of 10.3% in ebook sales. But the shining light in literature? You guessed it: Audio books – whose sales over that same period rose by 31%.
Not interested in stats? Think of an audio book as an additional level to your author platform then. A place for new listeners to stop by and find out about you. To effortlessly hear your words for free just by clicking play. No membership needed, no sign up, just search and listen. And while they’re listening to your story why not point them towards your blog or website or somewhere your books are available to buy? We don’t mind!
Still…it’s daunting, isn’t it? Taking your beloved story and reading it aloud for the world to hear.
Well that’s what Bibliophone is all about: removing the barriers to your creativity and encouraging everyone to have a go. Record it in a studio or onto your phone – it doesn’t matter, we’d love to host it.
But what if you want to have a voice over artist record it for you anyway? Perhaps you’re ready to dip your toe in the world of audio books but you have no idea where to start. You know you can write, but you don’t know if you’re ready to narrate.
Step forward the fabulous voice talent Rebecca Roberts and the Bibliophone ‘1000 Words Heard’ competition!
And this one couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is write a story in 1000 words or less and send it to us at [email protected] before the 28th February 2016 and one lucky winner will have their story recorded by Rebecca in the studio and published here on Bibliophone. Not only that but we’ll tweet it every day for a month and it’ll have pride of place at the top of our homepage for a month too. The winner can include links in their author bio to where their work is available elsewhere, to their social media feeds, blog, website – you name it. This is all about publicity and development of creativity and for once, you really don’t have anything to lose. Entry is completely, totally, unquestionably FREE. And since we offer only free audio work to our listeners, your audio story will be super-accessible too. So come on, get writing. A thousand little words. You’ve just read over 600 so what are you waiting for?
Good luck!
